City Hall Requests $117,800,000
Clovis Budget is 102% of 1999 spending!

CLOVIS -- A proposed budget representing
102% of the funds needed in 1999. The $117.8 million budget for the
City of Clovis looks like its a go! Approval of the spending
of $117.8 millions is just fine with Clovis Mayor Harry Armstrong
who says its not enough. In a report to the City Council this week,
Clovis City Manager, Kathy Millison it would have to do for the 70,746
residents public safety, transportation and street repairs, sewer,
water and trash services, recreation, and pet projects. Highlights
of the budget include:
In addition to the burgronoing 373
full-time City Hall administration, another 17 City workers will be
hired, including yet another computer tech.
This year's budget is based on the assumption
that "...the best way to reach a healthier economy is to encourage
private-sector investment in business and industry that employ more
of our citizens..." according to City Manager, Kathy Millison.
Whether or not this proposed increase
in spending is approved by he City Council will be resolved at the
hearings on its merits conducted starting on June 7th. and continuing
every Monday evening at City Council meeetings. Final approval is
set for Monday June 19th at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.
